01 Geographical Location

The Kashka-Suu rural area is located 850 kilometres from Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, 238 kilometres from Osh, the administrative centre of Osh Region, and 45 kilometres from the administrative centre of Chon-Alai District.

The area is classified as a high-altitude region with harsh natural and climatic conditions. The winter season lasts up to seven months and is characterized by sudden changes in weather conditions.

02 Terrain

The main factors shaping the terrain of the Chon-Alai Valley include modern tectonic movements and exogenous processes, Quaternary glaciation, river activity, frost weathering and temperature-related processes.

The Chon-Alai Valley contains two geomorphological regions, four geomorphological complexes and nine types of terrain. The total pasture area within the Kashka-Suu rural area is 72,417 hectares.

03 Climatic Conditions

The climate of the Chon-Alai Valley is continental and dry. The seasons differ significantly from one another. The high-altitude location has a considerable influence on cloud cover, precipitation, and annual and daily fluctuations in air temperature.

The region’s low precipitation and humidity levels are also significantly influenced by the prevailing westerly winds.

The Kashka-Suu rural area borders the Chon-Alai rural area to the west and Alai District to the east.
